George Dance c1809-1866

George Dance

c1809-1866

George was baptised on the 14th May 1809 at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, Berkshire, the son of George and Mary Dance (nee Dore) who were married on the 26th June 1801 at St Mary the Virgin, Speen.

George married Martha Winter on the 15th July 1833 at St Mary the Virgin, Chieveley, Berkshire. Both were single and witnesses were Abraham Fisher and Hannah Dance.

(Martha was born c1806 in Chieveley.)

George and Martha had the following children baptised in Chieveley:

Ann baptised 11th August 1833

William and Joseph Baptised 17th June 1835 (William died aged 1 in 1837, he was buried on the 25th February at St Mary the virgin Chieveley)

James baptised 2nd July 1837

Eliza baptised 3rd January 1841

Twins: Elizabeth and Mary born 1844, Elizabeth baptised 10th June 1844 and Mary baptised 4th August 1844

 

The 1841 census records George (30) as a Gardener living in Chieveley with Martha (30) and their children Ann (7), Joseph (5), James (4) and Eliza (5 months).

The family were still living in Chieveley in 1851

Martha died aged 48 in 1855, she was buried on the 8th January at St Mary Chieveley

George died aged 58 in 1866, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th April.
