Agnes Batt
Agnes Batt
c1800-1864
Agnes Talbot was born in Ulverston Lancashire.
In 1815 Agnes (15) was living in Winchcomb Place on the east side of Northbrook Street, Newbury.
Agnes married Charles Batt (surname recorded as Butt) in the parish church of St Mary the Virgin Speen Berkshire in 1835, they had three sons, William born in 1837, George Joseph born in 1839 (died aged 2 weeks 1840, buried on the 3rd February at St Nicolas Newbury) and Charles born in 1841.
The 1841 census records Agnes (35), Charles (30), William (3 ½) and Charles (3 months) living in Northbrook Street Newbury. Charles was working as a Candle Maker.
In 1851 Charles (42) was recorded as an Innkeeper/Brewer living at the Bakers Arms Northbrook Street with Agnes (48) and their two sons.
The Berkshire Chronicle dated the 17th April 1852 records their son Charles Batt elected a free scholar to St Bartholomew’s Grammar School.
By 1861 Charles (55) and Agnes (60) had moved to Bartholomew Street Newbury, Charles was recorded in the 1861 census as a Lodging House Keeper.
Agnes died aged 65 in 1864 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road cemetery on the 25th April.
Charles died aged 61 on the 2nd December 1870 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th December.
