Only three of the five burial register books still exist as far as we know and these are held at the Berkshire Record Office.

Mary Brown

Mary Brown

c1774-1864

 

Mary was born in Newbury she was baptised on the 1st February 1774 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Brown.

Mary never married.

In 1815 Mary was recorded living on the west side of Northbrook Street Newbury with her mother Elizabeth (74), her sister Catherine, a Pastry Cook and a Harriet Parker (20) (possibly her niece).

In the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census records Mary was recorded living with her sister Catherine Brown at 8 Raymonds New Almshouses Newbury. The 1851 and 1861 census records also record their widowed sister Eleanor Parker living with them.

Both of Mary’s sisters died in 1861, Eleanor died aged 89 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th April. Catherine died aged 92 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd August.

Mary died aged 90 in 1864 she was laid to rest in a private grave in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st February
