There is no burial register information available for Joanna Hawker.
Only three of the five burial register books still exist as far as we know and these are held at the Berkshire Record Office.
Stillborn children were not recorded in the burial register, only in the cemetery accounts.
having looked through all the names with the initials J H in 1863 then looking through all the names with the initials A H in 1883 there is Joanna Hawker (buried in a consecrated private grave) and Ann Hawker, mother and daughter. Footstone: JH-1863 AH-1883 | |

Joanna Hawker
c1788-1863
Joanna(h) was baptised on the 25th May 1788 at Broadclyst, Devon, the daughter of William Lucraft.
Her father William married Esther Newton on the 10th December 1781 in Broadclyst Devon.
Joanna’s siblings were (all baptised in Broadclyst Devon):
Elizabeth baptised 28th July 1782
Benjamin and Joseph baptised 12th April 1784 (father recorded as a Pauper)
William baptised 6th June 1790
Esther baptised 24th June 1792 (father recorded as a Pauper)
Nicholas baptised 9th June 1793
John baptised 29th November 1795, buried 6th December 1795
Ann baptised 18th December 1796
Jane baptised 20th April 1800
Joanna married Charles Hawker on the 29th March 1814 in Gittisham Devon
Joanna and Charles had the following children:
Henry baptised in 1814 in Gittisham
William babtised in 1816 in Gittisham (died in 1823 in Exeter)
Mary baptised in 1819 in Gittisham
Ann baptised in 1821 in Gittisham
John baptised in 1823 in Exeter
Charles baptised in 1826 in Exeter

Joanna worked as a Dressmaker.
In 1851 Joanna (64) was recorded as a widow, living in West Street, Newbury with her daughter Ann (29), a Dressmaker.
The 1861 census records Joanna (72), as Formerly a Dressmaker living at 77 Northbrook Street, Newbury. Her daughters Mary (41) and Ann (39), both Milliner & Dressmakers, an Anne Powell (23), a Milliner & Dressmaker’s Assistant, two nieces***, Amelia Slone (21), a Dressmaker and Amelia Bulbick (9), Elizabeth Tisher (17) and Charlotte Stevens (14), both Apprentice Dressmakers, Lucy Wilmot (17), a Servant and a Lodger, Edward Thomas Ezard (27) an Architectural Assistant were also record in the household.
*** Amelia Stone was the daughter of Joanna’s sister Ann who married James Stone in 1823 in Devon. Amelia Bulbick was the daughter of Mary Lucraft who married Charles Bulbick in 1846 in London. Mary was the daughter of Joanna’s brother Joseph.
Joanna died aged 75 in 1863, she was buried in a consecrated private grave in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th October.
