According to census records Jane Showell was born in Newbury

In 1815 Jane (22) was living in Quarrington’s Yard on the east side of Mary Hill Newbury with a widow, Elizabeth Baily (80). Also living in close proximity was a William Langton (23), living with parents William (56), a Tailor, and Ann (50) and his siblings, Maria (25), Joseph (17), Thomas (15) and John (13).

Jane married William Langton on 1st February 1816 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

They had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury:

William baptised 21st July 1816 (Father recorded as a Labourer)

Thomas baptised 12th September 1818 (Father recorded as a Labourer) (died aged 1+ buried 17th December 1819 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Twins: Joseph and Mary baptised 21st July 1821 (Father recorded as a Corn Porter) (Mary and Joseph both died aged 9 months, Mary buried 23rd April 1822 and Joseph buried 8th May 1822 both buried at St Nicolas Newbury)

John baptised 11th May 1823 (Father recorded as a Labourer)

Mary baptised 2nd April 1826 Father recorded as a Labourer)

Eliza baptised 29th March 1828 (Father recorded as a Labourer)

The 1841 census records William (45), as a Corn Porter living in Bradley’s Yard, Newbury with Jane (45) and their daughter Eliza (14)

William died aged 52 in 1844, he was buried on the 30th August at St Nicolas Newbury

In 1851 Jane (58) was living with her married daughter Mary Lynch, her son-in-law Robert Lynch and their children, George Langton (7) and Henry Lynch (5), in Mary Hill, Newbury.

The 1861 census records Jane (71) as Formerly a Laundress, living in Mary Hill, her grandson George Langton (17), a Shoemaker was recorded living with her.

Jane died aged 74 in 1863 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th August
