Only three of the five burial register books still exist as far as we know and these are held at the Berkshire Record Office.
Stillborn children were not recorded in the burial register, only in the cemetery accounts.

Jane Gearing

c1826-1862

 

Jane was born in Farnborough she was the daughter of James and Martha Gearing (nee Sampson) who were married in Farnborough in 1819.

Other known children of James and Martha were:

Hannah c1821

Harriet c1822

George 1831 (died aged 3 weeks buried on the 8th December St Mary the virgin Chieveley)

In 1841 Jane (15) was living in Leckhampstead with her father James (60) Occupation: Labourer, mother Martha (45) and her sister Harriet (15)

Jane’s father died in 1847 (death recorded in Newbury)

The 1851 census records Jane’s  widowed mother Martha (58) as a pauper, living at Hill Green Leckhampstead also living with her was Jane (27), Jane’s son James Gearing (1), her married daughter Harriet Taylor (30), son-in-law Thomas Taylor (39) and her (Taylor) grandsons,  Edward  (5),  William (3) and Francis (1)

In 1861 Martha (71) was living in Weston (near Welford) with her married daughter Hannah Fisher (40), son-in-law Thomas Fisher (46) and her (Fisher) grandchildren, Lucy (13) Frederick (10), Emma (7) and Sophia (2).  Jane (36), occupation: Field Hand and her son James (11) were recorded as Pauper/Inmates in the Newbury Workhouse.

Jane died in 1862 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th December.  (GRO record her aged at death as 33, the NBI record her age at death as 40)

Her mother Martha died aged 80 in 1868 and was buried on the 13th February in Welford St Gregory.
