Benjamin Walter

Benjamin was born in Newbury he was the son of Benjamin and Sidney Walter (nee Paice) who were married on the 11th May 1818 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. His father was a Sawyer and was born c1800 in Newbury.

Benjamin’s mother died (death not found) and his father remarried on the 4th February 1827 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, his 2nd wife was Mary Ann Barnard (a spinster).

In 1841 Benjamin was working as a Shoemaker and was living with his father, stepmother and siblings, John (15), Martha (10), James (7), Ann (4), Thomas 3) and Frederick (1) in Old Newtown Road Newbury.

In 1851 he was lodging with a Maria Bullock and her son Joseph in Bartholomew Street.  He was still lodging with Maria Bullock in 1861 but they were living in Old Road Newbury, Benjamin was recorded as a Dealer in Wood in this census year.

Benjamin’s father died aged 56 in 1856 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th May.

Benjamin died aged 41 in 1862 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th October.
