James H Merritt

1862-1862

 

James Henry was born in Newbury he was the son of John & Ellen Merritt (nee Harrison) (surname recorded as Merrett at time of marriage) who married in Newbury in 1850. His father was born c1823 in Wiltshire and his mother was born c1826 in Newbury.

Other children of John & Ellen were:

Mary Susan 1854

Edward John c1857

Francis Harrison c1859

Martha Ann 1863

James died aged 0 in 1862 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th August

In 1851 his parents were living in Stillman’s Yard Newbury and his father was working as an Ostler.

 In 1861 the family were living in Balding’s Yard and his father was working as a Drayman.

His father died aged 44 in 1867 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th October.

His mother never remarried she was recorded living in Jack Street (1871 and 1881) and Shaw Crescent (1891 and 1901) and worked at various times as a Sempstress, Tailoress and Upholsterer. She died aged 75 in 1901 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st July
