Only three of the five burial register books still exist as far as we know and these are held at the Berkshire Record Office.
Stillborn children were not recorded in the burial register, only in the cemetery accounts.

Sarah her parents and siblings:

Sarah Reeves was born on the 24th December 1785 in Newbury she was baptised on the 2nd April 1786 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the daughter of Thomas (a Tailor) and Sarah Reeves (nee Collins) who were married on the 5th July 1780 at St Nicolas Newbury.  

Other known children of Thomas and Sarah, baptised at St Nicolas were:

Thomas baptised 22/7/1781

Edward baptised 26/12/1783

Elizabeth baptised 4/8/1797 (died aged 15 months buried on the 21st October 1798 at St Nicolas Newbury)

and a daughter, Denny born c1802 (no baptism found)

In 1815 Thomas (63), Sarah (60) and their daughter Denny (13) (spelt Denne) were recorded living in Union Court on the west side of Northbrook Street Newbury.

Sarah’s mother died age 63 in 1819 she was buried on the 20th July at St Nicolas Newbury. Her father died aged 82 in 1834 he was buried on the 24th November at St Nicolas Newbury

Sarah:

Sarah married twice both her husbands were named Richard.

She married Richard Dodson on the 8th October 1805 in St Giles without Cripplegate London. Richard was a Coachman (recorded as such on the baptism record of his children Mary Ann and George in 1816 and the marriage record of his son Richard in 1847).

They had the following children (and possibly more):  

Richard born 2nd August 1806, baptised on the 21st June 1807 in Thatcham Berkshire

Mary Ann and George (possibly twins but not recorded as such) baptised on the 26th May 1816 at St Nicolas Church Newbury

Sarah Ann born c1816 in Middlesex

Sarah was widowed between 1816 -1819 (no confirmed death for Richard Dodson found but there’s  this possible burial: Richard Dodson, died in St Luke’s Hospital aged 39 , buried St Luke’s Finsbury Islington Middlesex on the 11th December  1816 , as his daughter Sarah was recorded in the 1861 census as being born in Islington Middlesex c1816)

Sarah remarried on the 11th February 1819 at St Nicolas Church Newbury her 2nd husband was Richard Kendall, they had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Newbury:

 Emma baptised 19th November 1820 (died aged 2+ in 1823 , buried on the 1st February at St Nicolas Newbury)

Twins: Henry and Jane baptised 11th July 1823 (Jane died aged 2+ in 1825, she was buried on the 29th October at St Nicolas Newbury)

Frederick baptised 3rd September 1826

On all of the children’s baptism records Richard was recorded as a Tailor.

Richard died aged 38 on the 9th December 1838 at Westcombe’s Buildings, Northbrook Street Newbury

In 1841 Sarah Kendell (50) was recorded as Independent, living in Northbrook Street Newbury. Also living with her was her son George Dodson (25), occupation: Tailor.

Both the 1851 and 1861 census records record Sarah as a Tailor’s Widow, living in Raymond’s Almshouses Newbury, her daughter Sarah Ann Dodson was recorded living with her in both census years, also recorded in the 1851 census was her grandson, Richard Dodson aged 16 (recorded on ancestry as Parchard Dagson, born in Middlesex).

Sarah Kendell died aged 77 in 1862 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th August.

Sarah’s children:

Sarah’s son Richard Dodson was a Tailor and Draper he married Ann Garland on the 14th July 1827 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, they had at least six children. Ann died aged 41 on the 29th August 1846 in Newbury after a long and painful illness. Richard remarried the following year his 2nd wife was a widow, Sarah Ann Bowden (nee Higgs). Richard died suddenly aged 47 in 1853. He had been complaining of chest pains for some time and on Saturday 28th May he went to bed at about ten thirty in the evening and was found dead the next morning by his daughter.

Her son George Dodson died aged 28 on the 31st May 1844 in Newbury.

Her daughter Mary Ann Dodson married George Stone, a Harness Maker in 1840 they had a daughter Letitia born later that year. All three were recorded in the 1841 census on the same page as Sarah. Mary Ann died later that year aged 27. Letitia died aged 0 her death was recorded in the March quarter the following year.

Her daughter Sarah Ann Dodson never married. In 1871 she was living in Greenham and in 1881 she was lodging in Railway Terrace Newbury and was working as a Housekeeper. She died aged 67 in 1883 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th July.

Her son Henry Kendell was a Tailor Journeyman he married Emma Elizabeth Freeman in 1849 in Huntingdonshire they had at least one child, Richard Frederic/Freddie born in 1850 in Huntingdonshire. In 1851 the family were living in Westcombe Buildings Newbury

Her son Frederick Kendell was an Apprentice Draper in Newbury in 1841.  In 1851 he was a Linen Draper’s Assistant in Hungerford. In May 1851 he married Mary Ann White (maiden name Cox). They moved to Hoxton (1 Woburn-place) in 1857 and lived together until June1860. Mary left home to visit her mother and never returned home. She went on to live with man named Baron and Frederick was granted a divorce in 1861. The 1861 census records him as a Fancy Warehouseman living in Woburn Place Bloomsbury Middlesex. He married Sarah Lewis in 1862. In 1871 he was recorded as a Lace Merchant living at 1 Russell Terrace Kensington. He died aged 45 on the 1st March 1872 at 1 Russell Terrace Ladbroke-grove Notting Hill.
