John Kimber

c1783-1862

John was born Newbury, he was baptised on the 13th April 1783 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of James and Elizabeth Kimber (nee Woolridge) who were married on the 19th September 1780 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.  In all census records John was recorded as a Paper Maker. He married Sarah (unknown, marriage not found) and they had the following children:

Jane baptised 3rd April 1814 at St Nicolas Newbury (Abode: Bartholomew Street Newbury, Father recorded as a Paper Maker)

Thomas baptised 10th November 1816 at St Nicolas Newbury (Abode: Newbury. Father recorded as a Paper Maker)

John born 31st May 1821 baptised 5th September 1830 at St Nicolas Newbury (Abode: Newbury. Father recorded as a Paper Maker)

In the 1815 census of Newbury John (32) was living on the east side of Bartholomew Street Newbury with his wife Sarah (27) and their children James (4) and Jane (1).

St Nicolas Church baptism records record a baptism on the 30th March 1823 for a Henry, illegitimate child of John Kimber, a Paper Maker and Mary Skinner.

Sarah died aged 44 in 1830, she was buried on the 26th July at St Nicolas Newbury.

John remarried on the 21st January 1833 at St Mary’s Church Thatcham, his 2nd wife was a widow, Sarah Wilkins (nee Noyes, born in Newbury c1799 daughter of David and Mary Noyes, 1st husband a widower, William Wilkins, married 24/1/1821 at St Nicolas Church Newbury).

John and Sarah had the following children:

Ruth, born c1833

Victoria Kimber born 1837 (died aged 6 months, buried on the 22nd January 1838 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Albert born 1841 (died aged 2 weeks, buried on the 20th December 1841 at St Nicolas Newbury)

The 1841 census records John (55), Sarah (40) and Ruth (8) living in Northbrook Street, Newbury.

In 1851 John (69) and Sarah (51) were recorded living in Gibbs Yard, Newbury (surname recorded as Kember on ancestry)

The 1861 census records John (78), Sarah (67) their daughter Ruth (28) and their granddaughter Jane Kimber (7 months) living in Dredge’s Yard, Newbury

John died aged 79 in 1862, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd April

Sarah died aged 67 in 1866 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th September.
