Only three of the five burial register books still exist as far as we know and these are held at the Berkshire Record Office.

According to census records Ann (unknown) was born c1794 in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales.

In the 1841 census she was recorded as Ann Newbury aged 45, living in Mary Hill, Newbury with Joseph Newbury aged 60, a Beer Seller and John Newbury aged 10. (The next recorded name on this census page in the same dwelling was a James Hayter aged 45, a Labourer.)

Joseph and Ann’s son John was baptised on the 15th January 1832 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, his father was recorded as a Labourer on the baptism record.

Joseph Newberry died aged 70 in 1847.

Ann Newbery married James Hayter in 1851 (marriage registered in Newbury).

The 1851 census records James (55) (born Combe Hampshire) and Ann (54) living at 9 Winchcombe Place, Newbury, James was recorded as a Chelsea Pensioner and Ann was recorded as a Laundress.

James Hayter died aged 61 in 1858, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th August.

The 1861 census records Ann (69) as Formerly a Publican’s Wife, living in Nutley Yard, Newbury.

She died aged 71 in 1862 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th January.
