Burial Register

There is no burial register information available for John Willis.
Only three of the five burial register books still exist as far as we know and these are held at the Berkshire Record Office.
Stillborn children were not recorded in the burial register, only in the cemetery accounts.

John Willis

John Willis

 c1799-1861

 

John was born in Newbury he was the son of Joseph and Sarah Willis.

Sarah and Joseph also had the following children:

Joseph c1795

Elizabeth c1801

Samuel c1805

Henry c1807

Ann c1811

Joseph was a Tailor and in 1815 the family were living in Union Court Newbury.

Like his father, John was also a Tailor he married Denny Reeves on the 29th May 1820 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

Denny was born c1800 in Newbury, she was also living in Union Court, with a Thomas (63) and Sarah (60) Reeves in 1815.

John and Denny had the following children:

Desmond c1834

George c1837

Samuel c1840

 

In 1841 the family were living in Northbrook Street Newbury. The 1851 census records them living in Church Court Newbury.

 

Denny died aged 54 in 1853 in Newbury and John remarried in 1856. His 2nd wife was Charlotte Davison the marriage was registered in Strand Middlesex. Charlotte was born c1813 in Hadley Hertfordshire.

The 1861 census records John (62), Charlotte (48) and Charlotte’s son James Davison (14) living in Northcroft Lane Newbury.

John died aged 62 in 1861 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th December.
