Only three of the five burial register books still exist as far as we know and these are held at the Berkshire Record Office.
Stillborn children were not recorded in the burial register, only in the cemetery accounts.

Henry Langton

Henry Langton

c1820-1861

 

Henry was born in Newbury he was baptised on the 15th March 1820 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the son of John and Jane Langton (nee Samuels) who were married on the 30th October 1802 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. (Jane was recorded as Jenny on the marriage record)

John was born c1784 he died aged 53 in 1835 and was buried on the 16th November at St Nicolas Newbury

Jane was born c1785 she died aged 53 in 1836 and was buried on the 1st June at St Nicolas Newbury

In the 1815 census of Newbury John (31) was recorded as a Brewer, (also recorded as a Brewer on Henry’s baptism record) living in Princes Yard on the west side of Mary Hill Newbury with Jane (30) and their daughter Eliza (2).

In the 1841 census Henry (20) was recorded as a Labourer, living with his Uncle Joseph Langton (60), a Bricklayer, his Aunt Sarah Langton (70), and a Charles Langton (15), a Labourer, in Back Lane Newbury.

His uncle Joseph died aged 61 in 1842 he was buried on the 31st August at St Nicolas Newbury.

In 1851 he was living at 4 Almshouses Cheap Street Newbury with his Aunt Sarah (81) and was still working as a Labourer.

His Aunt Sarah died aged 87 in 1857 she was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th December

The 1861 census records Henry (42) as a Corn Porter’s Labourer, lodging in Market Place Newbury

Henry died (age recorded as 39 on the GRO website and 41 in the NBI) in 1861 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19th November
