Henry Hammond

Henry Hammond

c1809-1861

 

Henry was born in Newbury and was a Painter (House) he married Maria Collins (born c 1809 in Newbury) on the 31st May 1834 at St Nicolas Church Newbury and they had at least one child, Charles born c1835.

The family were recorded living in Caroline Yard (off Northbrook Street) Newbury in 1841 and Wells Yard (off Bartholomew Street) in 1851. By 1861 Charles had left home, the census for that year records Henry and Maria living in Nutley’s Yard Bartholomew Street Newbury.

Henry died aged 52 in 1861 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd October.

After her husband died Maria worked as a charwoman, in 1871 she was recorded living in Boyer’s Yard (off Northbrook Street) Newbury. She died aged 68 in 1878 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd July
