John Haskins

John Haskins

c1790-1861

John was born in Newbury c1790 he was the son of John and Rosa Ann Haskins (nee Pointer) who were married on the 6th August 1777 in Salisbury Wiltshire.

In 1815 the family were living on the east side of Northbrook Street Newbury and were recorded as follows:

John Haskins aged 70, occupation: Wine Merchant

Rosa Haskins aged 65  

John Haskins aged 25

Edward Haskins aged 23

Louisa Haskins aged 17

Mary Haskins aged 60

Elizabeth Haskins aged 20, occupation: Servant

John’s father died aged 71 in 1816 he was buried on the 27th April at St Nicolas Newbury

John’s mother died aged 80 in 1831 she was buried on the 18th June at St Nicolas Newbury.

On the 18th January 1816 John aged 26 and his brother Edward Poynter aged 24 became members of the Freemasons (Royal Sussex Lodge Newbury). On the initiation record John was recorded as a Gent and Edward a Wine Merchant.

John married Charlotte Elizabeth Brown (born c1817 in Middlesex) on the 31st July 1838 in St Pancras Middlesex.

In 1841 John was working as a Male Servant and they were living in Isleworth Middlesex.

In the 1851 census they were recorded living in Ashford Kingsclere Hampshire, John was recorded as an Annuitant.  Charlotte’s sister, Caroline Brown, aged 26 was also living with them.

In the 1861 census they were recorded living in Newbury, John was recorded as a Retired Wine Merchant.

John died aged 71 on the 13th September 1861 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th September.

Charlotte died in 45 on the 17th February 1862 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd February.
