Walter James Mudge
1861-1861
Walter was born in in Newbury he was the illegitimate son of Anne (aka Annie) Mudge who was born in 1839 in Leverton Wiltshire. Anne was the daughter of James and Anne Mudge (nee Smith) who were married in Ramsbury Wiltshire on the 4th December 1828.
The 1861 census records Annie (21), as a Domestic Servant and her son Walter (2 months) living with Annie’s uncle James (54) and aunt Sarah (55) Hobbs in Eddington (near Hungerford) Berkshire.
Walter died in 1861 (death registered in the September quarter) he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th August.
His mother married Thomas Hurst Davenport (born c1841 in Macclesfield Cheshire) in 1863 in Hampshire they had a daughter, Lavinia Hurst born in 1871 in Gosport Hampshire. The family moved to Cheshire where Thomas died in 1877. Anne remarried in 1881 (in Macclesfield) her 2nd husband was John Adams (born c1824 in Macclesfield) they had a daughter, Edith Mary born 1882 in Pendleton Lancashire.
In 1891 the family were living at 11 Hope Street Openshaw Manchester Lancashire. Anne died in Lancashire in 1892 (death registered in Salford).
