James Bradfield

James Bradfield

c1823-1861

 

James was born in Newbury. He was the son of Edward and Sarah Bradfield (nee Hall) who were married on the 21st April 1816 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. Edward was a Sawyer and was born c1798 in Newbury and Sarah was born c1793 in Newbury.

In 1841 James (15) was living with his parents and siblings, Mary (13), Thomas (11), Caroline (9) and Edward (6), in East Field Newbury In 1851 he was recorded living with his parents and his brother Edward (16), in Kings Arms Yard Newbury.

Like his father, James was a Sawyer he married Sarah Adams in Newbury in 1853.

 Sarah already had a daughter, Caroline born in 1848 and together James and Sarah had a son James born c1854 and a daughter Sarah born 1856 (died aged 2 in 1858).

In 1861 James (38), Sarah (40) and their children Caroline (13) and James (7) were living in The City Newbury.

James died aged 38 in 1861 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd August.

In 1871 Sarah was living at 2 Lewis’s Buildings Bartholomew Street Newbury working as a Laundress, her son James (17) was living with her and was working as a Bricklayer.

Her daughter Caroline married (as Caroline Adams) James Young in Newbury in 1870 and in 1881, 1891 and 1901 Sarah was recorded living with James, Caroline and their family.

Sarah died aged 80 in 1901 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th April.
