Elizabeth Showell

1807-1861

 

Elizabeth was born on the 24th May 1807 in Hampshire she was baptised on the 20th September 1807 in Botley Hampshire and was the daughter of George and Hannah Withers (nee Witcher) who were married in East Dean Hampshire in 1801 (Hannah’s surname spelt Whitcher). George was a Turner (recorded as such on his daughter Elizabeth’s marriage certificate in 1845)

George and Hannah also had the following children (all baptised in Botley):

Eliza baptised 1805

John baptised 1809

Ann baptised 1810

Henry baptised 1813

 

Elizabeth was married twice her 1st husband was Thomas Moore they were married at St Mary’s Church Greenham Berkshire on the 1st September 1834. Her 2nd husband was Thomas Showell they were married on the 11th May 1845 at St John the Evangelist Lambeth Surrey.

The 1851 census records Thomas (38) as a Porter living with his wife Elizabeth (recorded as Eliza (38) at 3 Willow Row Old Street St Luke’s Middlesex. By 1861 the couple had moved to Newbury (Cheap Street) Thomas was working as a Carman.

Elizabeth died aged 54 in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th May

Thomas remarried in 1863 in Newbury his 2nd wife was Ann Stanford (a widow, nee Cox).

The 1871 census records Thomas and Ann living in Greenham Street, Thomas was recorded as a Carman.

Thomas died aged 65 in 1875 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st October.
