1860-1861

 

Sarah Jane’s parents were Eliza Jacobs and Thomas Smart.

Sarah Jane’s mother:

 Eliza Jacobs was baptised on the 27th December 1818 in Kintbury, the daughter of John and Mary Jacobs. She married William Lawrence in Kintbury on the 12th March 1836 and they had three children, John born c1837, Ann born in 1839 and Thomas born in 1845.

The 1841 census records William (50) as an Agricultural Labourer living with his wife Eliza (20) and their eldest two children, John (3) and Ann (2) at Godfreys, Kintbury.

William died aged 53 in 1848 he was buried on the 16th January at St Mary Kintbury.

Sarah Jane’s father:

Thomas was baptised on the 7th April 1822 in Kintbury, the son of Samuel and Harriet Smart (nee Thomas).

In 1841 Thomas was living with his parents at Gravel Pits, Kintbury

Sarah Jane’s parents and family:

Thomas and Eliza were married on the 11th November 1848 in the parish church of St Mary Kintbury

  They had two daughters, Louisa, born 1858 and Sarah Jane born in 1860.

Sadly Sarah Jane died aged 10 months in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th February

The family were recorded living in Kintbury (1851), Bartholomew Street Newbury (1861), St John’s View (1871 and 1881) and New Church Almshouses Newtown Road Newbury (1891)

Thomas worked as an Agricultural Labourer/General Labourer he died aged 78 in 1895 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st January 1896.

The 1901 census records Eliza (84) living at 6 New Church Almshouses Newtown Road Newbury, she died aged 87 in 1904 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th April.
