Charles Henry Allen
1857-1858
Charles Henry’s birth was registered in the December quarter 1857, in Newbury. He was born in Greenham, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Mary Allen (nee Batchelor) who were married in 1855 (marriage registered in Newbury)
Charles Henry died in 1858. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5th July.
Charles Henry’s family:
His mother Mary was born in Greenham, she was baptised in 1836 in Greenham, the daughter of John and Eliza Bachelor
His father Henry was born on the 5th May 1835 in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 31st May 1835, at the Methodist Church, Northbrook Street, Newbury, the son of William and Sarah Allen (nee Jordan) who were married on the 23rd October 1820, at St Mary, Speen, Berkshire.
Henry and Mary also had the following children:

James Alfred, 1863
Charles Edward, 1864 (died aged 7 months in 1865, buried 1st July, at St Mary Greenham)
Eliza, 1866
Thomas Robert, 1868
Henry was a Plumber, Painter and Glazier. He was working in partnership with his brother Alfred in West Street, Newbury. The partnership was dissolved in 1867.
The family were recorded living in The Folly, Greenham, Berkshire in 1861, 1871 & 1881.
The household consisted of:
In 1861: Henry (26), Mary (25) and their children, Harriett (5) and Henry John (2).
In 1871: Henry (35), Mary (35), Harriet (15) a Servant, Henry J. (11), William G. (9), James A. (7), Eliza (4) and Thomas R. (2).
In 1881: Henry (46), Mary (46), Henry J. (21), a Plumber, William G. (19), a Plumber, James A. (17), a Grocer’s Assistant, Eliza (14) and Thomas R. (12).
Henry died aged 52 in 1890, in Wallingford. He was buried on the 24th November 1890, at St Mary, Greenham.
In 1891 Mary (53), her daughter Eliza (25), a Dressmaker and her son Thomas (22), were living in Cul de Sac Road, East Molesley, Epsom, Surrey. Her son Henry John (32) was recorded visiting the family.
The 1901 census records Mary (65) living at 27 Goldborn Road, Lambeth, with her married son Thomas (31), her daughter-in-law, Esther (30) and her grandchildren, Thomas (2) and Lilian (2 months).
The 1911 census records her aged 75, living at 8 Ebury Road, Watford, with Thomas (42), Esther (43), Dorothy (13), Thomas (12) Lilian (10) and George (6).
