Richard Brice Church

1857-1857

Richard Brice was born in Newbury, Berkshire (birth registered in the September quarter 1857), the son of William and Sarah Church (nee Taylor) who were married on the 12^th July 1838 at St Martin in the Fields, Westminster.

Richard died in December 1857. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18^th December.

His father William was born on the 11^th November 1812 in Chieveley, Berkshire, he was baptised on the 22^nd November 1812 in Chieveley, the son of Richard (a Bricklayer) and Lucy Church (nee Fox) who were married on the 3^rd November 1800 at St Martin in the Fields, Westminster.

His mother Sarah was born on the 25^th October 1810 in Chieveley, Berkshire, she was baptised on the 23^rd December 1810, in Chieveley, the daughter of William and Sarah Taylor (nee Taylor) who were married on the 28^th May 1798 in Chieveley, Berkshire.

William and Sarah also had the following children:

Alice Elizabeth 1844

Emily 1846

William 1850 (died 1851, buried in the NRC on the 7^th June)

Rowland c1852

Walter 1854

In 1841 William (25) a Bricklayer and Sarah (30) were living in Northbrook Street, Newbury.

The 1851, 1861 and 1871 census records record the family living at 9 Southampton Terrace, Newbury as follows:

1851: William (38), a Builder employing 8 men Sarah (40), Rosa Louisa (8), Alice Elizabeth (7), Emily (4) and William (1).

1861: William (48), a Builder employing 6 men, Sarah (50), Emily (14), Rowland (9) and Walter (6).

1871: William (58), a Builder, Sarah (60), Rosa (29) and Walter (16), an Apprentice Ironmonger.

Sarah died aged 60 on the 18^th September 1871, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery 21^st September.

William died aged 58 on the 23^rd October 1871, he was laid to rest with Sarah in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26^th October.
