George Finch
c1799-1857
George was born in Newbury c1799 he was the son of Joseph & Elizabeth Finch (nee Allen) who married in Greenham in 1798. His mother died when George was 9 years old.
Joseph Toomer’s 815 census of Newbury records the family as follows:
Abode: Union Court, West Side Northbrook Street Newbury Joseph Finch aged 42, Widower, Occupation: Cabinet Maker George Finch aged 16 Martha Finch aged 15 Sarah Finch aged 13 Joseph Finch aged 12 Charles Finch aged 9 John Finch aged 8
George married Mary Tomkins on the 4th September 1825 at St Nicolas Church Newbury and they had the following children:
Charles Dover born 25/10/1826 buried 14/1/1828 Charles Dover bapt 4/4/1828 Job born 14/9/1829 Joseph born 17/4/1831 Elizabeth Allen born 7/7/1832 buried 11/2/1833
George was widowed in 1833 his wife Mary died aged 36 on the 24th June and was buried on the 28th June (Church Lower Meeting House (Independent)). He remarried in 1836 his 2nd wife was Jane Windebank .

Witnesses: Jane Higman Stacey, Ann Windebank and W Hatche
George and Jane had the following children who were all born in Newbury:
Mary born 16/1/1837 Benjamin 1838 Ann Emylier 1839 Edward 1841 Emma 1843 George 1845
The family were recorded living in Crown Court in the parish of St Nicolas Newbury in the 1841 census and Bartholomew Street in the 1851 census 1851and in both of these census records George was recorded as a Cabinet Maker.
George died aged 57 in 1857 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd January.
