Elizabeth Jane was born in Newbury, Berkshire the daughter of William and Lucy Ann Coxeter (nee Colston/Coulstone/Colstone) who were married in 1854 (marriage registered in Newbury).

Elizabeth Jane died aged 0 in 1856, (birth registered in the June quarter, death registered in the September quarter) she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th August.

Her father William was a Tailor, he was born c1806 in Shaw Berkshire, the son of William and Jane Coxeter (nee Pearce) who were married on the 11th February 1828 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

Her mother Lucy Ann Colston was baptised in 1829 in Newbury, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Colston (nee Pearce) who were married on the 21st October 1827 at St Mary Thatcham. (Thomas’s surname spelt as Colestone).

The 1851 census shows Elizabeth’s father, William aged 20, living at Back Lane with his father (1806-1882) – also a William and a tailor – and his mother Jane, with siblings Charles (15), George (13), James (11), Jane (6) and Henry (4).

William and Lucy Ann also had the following three children:

William born in 1857 in Newbury

Sarah Eliza born 1861 in the Isle of Wight

Caroline Rose born 22nd November 1862 in Woolhampton, Berkshire

 

The 1861 census records William (30), Lucy (30) and their children William (3) and Sarah Eliza (2 months) living at 14 Albert Street, Northwood, West Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Their daughter Sarah Eliza died aged 4 months she was buried on the 9th June 1861 in Northwood Hampshire.

Their son William died aged 4 the following year, he was buried on the 8th February 1862 in Northwood Hampshire.

William (31) also died in 1862 (death registered Newbury). He was buried on the 10th June at St Peter Woolhampton, Berkshire. Lucy gave birth to their 3rd daughter five months later.

The 1871 census records Lucy (40) as a Needlewoman, living in Chapel Court, West Cowes, Isle of Wight with her daughter Caroline (8) and a Jane Bile (12).

Lucy remarried in 1874 at the Castlehold Baptist Church, High Street, Newport, Isle of Wight. Her 2nd husband was William Deacon, a widower (born c1820 in West Cowes)

 

The 1881 census records Lucy Deacon (50) living with her husband William (61) a Shipwright Pensioner and her daughter Caroline (18) (recorded as Rose) a School Teacher, at 4 Clarendon Street, Portsea, Hampshire.

Lucy Ann died aged 51 in 1881 (death registered in the December quarter in Portsea).

N.B.   The 1851 c shows Elizabeth's father, William aged 20, living at Back lane with his father (1806-1882)  - also a William and a tailor  -  and his mother Jane, with siblings Charles 15, George  13, James 11, Jane 6 and Henry 4.
