Rebecca was born 1842 at the Union Workhouse in Kingsclere, the daughter of Sarah Rabbits nee Butler. She was baptized 10 March 1842 at St Mary in Kingsclere, where Sarah was recorded as a pauper.
Rebecca’s mother Sarah Butler had married William Rabbits on 27 October 1830 at St Mary in Kingsclere. In April 1833 at the Hampshire Easter Sessions in Winchester William was found guilty of stealing eight oak trees from Charles Hyde at Kingsclere. He was sentenced to seven years transportation & sailed from Southampton on 20 May 1833 aboard SS Stakesby for Tasmania. He was released from servitude in 1841 but did not return to England.
In the 1851 census Rebecca was living at 1 Northbrook Street in Newbury & her occupation was recorded as a household servant. The head of the house was Edward Farrow, a single man & a butcher employing four men.
Rebecca died June 1856 at the Union Workhouse in Newbury. She & was buried 22 June 1856 at Newtown Road Cemetery after a service at St Nicolas in Newbury.
