Alfred Perdue/Purdue

1852-1856

Alfred was born on the 2nd August 1852 in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 31st October 1852, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the son of Edmund and Ann Purdue (nee Everest) who were married on the 12th March 1845, at St Nicolas, Newbury.

Alfred died aged 3 in 1856. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th April. (Surname recorded as Perdue at time of death)

Alfred’s family:

His father Edmund was born on the 15th March 1823, he was baptised on the 21st May 1823 at St Nicolas, Newbury, the son of George (a Shoemaker) and Mary Purdue (nee Cook) who married on the 5th February 1823 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

 His mother Ann Everest was born 29th June 1812 in Surrey she was baptised on the 18th August 1812, at St Mary’s Church, Headley, Surrey, the daughter of William & Ann Everest (nee Relph) who married on the 27th November 1810 in Kemsing, Kent.

Alfred’s siblings were:

David William Everest born 1840 (Ann Everest’s illegitimate son)

Edmund born 2nd April 1845, baptised 29th June 1845 (died aged 1 year 11 months, buried 16th April 1847 at St Nicolas, Newbury)

William George born 6th September 1846, baptised 25th October 1846

Henry born 22nd April 1850, baptised 26th May 1850

Mary Ann baptised 29th October 1854 (died aged 1, buried 26th October 1855 in the Newtown Road Cemetery)

In 1851 the family were living in Eyles Buildings.

In 1861 Edmund, Ann and their son Henry were recorded living with Edmund’s parents George & Mary Purdue at 8 Railway Terrace Newbury.

Ann died aged 50 in 1862 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Cemetery on the 26th December.

Edmund remarried in 1864 in Kensington, his 2nd wife was Eliza Chappell and they had the following children: George 1866, Thomas 1868, Arthur 1870, Elizabeth Mary 1873 and John 1875

Edmund died aged 77 in Newbury on the 28th October 1900, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st November.
