Esther Ann Beaven
1863-1931
Esther was born in Reading Berkshire the daughter of Henry and Esther Heburn Beaven (nee Church) who were married in 1851 (marriage registered in Newbury).
Henry and Esther also had the following children: John James born 1852 in Newbury, Hannah Sophia born c1856, Frederick Henry Church born c1857, Emily Wilson born 1859 and Joseph George born c1862, all born in Reading
Esther’s father was recorded as a Carpenter in 1861, 1871 and 1881. By 1891 Henry was a Grocer.
In 1861 the family were living at 14 Weldale Street, Reading.
In 1871 Esther was living with her parents and siblings in West Street, Newbury.
The 1881 census records Esther (17), as a Domestic Nursemaid at Burley Lodge, East Woodhay, Hampshire. Her parents and siblings were living in Summerfield Cottage, East Woodhay, Hampshire.
Esther’s mother died aged 66 in 1890 (death registered in Kingsclere)
By 1891 Esther (27) was working as a Grocer’s Assistant, (probably in her father’s Grocery Shop), she was living with her father Henry (65), a Grocer, her sister Hannah (35), a Grocer’s Assistant and Hannah’s illegitimate son William H Beaven (6), in Andover Road, Highclere.
Esther’s father Henry died aged 67 in 1893 (death registered in Kingsclere)
In 1901 Esther (37), (recorded as Annie) was recorded as a Grocer and Shopkeeper, living with her sister Hannah (45), (recorded as Sophie) a Grocer and Shopkeeper, and her nephew William (16), a Carpenter’s Apprentice, at the Grocer’s Shop in Andover Road, Highclere.
The 1911 census records Esther Ann (47) and Hannah (55) still living in Andover Road, Highclere, Hampshire. Both were recorded as Shopkeepers. By 1928 they had moved to 29 York Road Newbury.
Esther died aged 67 on the 30th April 1931, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5th May.
Her sister Hannah died aged 77 on the 31st May 1933, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd June.
Probate: BEAVEN Esther Ann of 29 York-road Newbury Berkshire spinster died 30th April 1931 Probate Oxford 5th June 1931 to Hannah Sophia Beaven spinster. Effects: £957 7s
