Richard Breeze
Richard Breeze
c1797-1856
Richard was born in Staffordshire he was baptised on the 11th May 1800 in Burslem Staffordshire and was the son of Ralph and Elizabeth Breeze (nee Nixon) who were married on the 31st December 1787 in Whitmore Staffordshire.
Richard’s father Ralph was baptised on the 28th September 1760 at St John the Baptist Burslem (surname spelt Breese)son of John and Mary , he died aged 76 in 1836 and was buried on the 29th December at St John the Baptist Burslem, at the time of his death he was living in Sneyd Green.
Richard’s mother Elizabeth was baptised on the 19th August 1763 (daughter of James and Elizabeth Nixon).The 1841 census records Elizabeth (75), Independent, living at Sneyd Green Burslem also living with her was a John Breeze (6). She died aged 81 in 1843 and was buried on the 5th March in Burslem
Ralph and Elizabeth also had the following children:
William baptised 12th October 1788
Mary baptised 14th February 1790
Ralph baptised 10th March 1793
James baptised 11th May 1800 (along with his brother Richard)
Richard Breeze (surname spelt Brees) married Hannah Bale (born c1791 in Hanley Staffordshire) on the 22nd March 1818 in Bucknall Staffordshire.
By 1841 Richard and Hannah had moved to Newbury. The 1841 census records Richard (45) as a China Dealer living in Rg Market Newbury with Hannah (45), also recorded in the household were two boys, William Cook (9) and Richard Cook (9).
The 1851 census records Richard (55), Formerly Hardware Peddler and Hannah (55) living in Market Place Newbury
Richard died aged 59 in 1856 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st March
In 1861 Hannah (67) was recorded living in St Mary’s Hill Newbury working as a Laundress she had a lodger, Elizabeth Smith (55) living with her. The 1871 census also records Hannah (79) as a Laundress she was still living in St Mary’s Hill when this census was taken but was living alone.
Hannah died aged 82 in 1873 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th February
