Mary Barefoot/Burford
c1772-1856
According to the 1851 census Mary Reeves was born in Devizes, Wiltshire.
By 1802 she was living in St Leonard, Heston, Hounslow, Middlesex.
She gave birth to a son, Edward Reeves, who was baptised on the 21st November 1802, at St Leonard (recorded as the base born son of Mary Reeves by Edward Burford on the baptism record).
Mary married Edward Burford on the 21st February 1803 at St Leonard, Heston, Hounslow, Middlesex (banns dated 10th 17th and 24th October 1802).
(Edward was baptised on the 26th July 1776 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Sincere Burford (nee Clifford) who were married on the 22nd January 1776 at St Nicolas Newbury. (Surname recorded as Barrett on Hardwicke Marriage Index)
Edward and Mary also had the following children baptised at St Leonard:
Sarah baptised 11th December 1803
Eleanor baptised 7th July 1808 (died aged 2 years, buried 19th August 1810 at St Leonard, Heston)
Joseph, baptised 31st March 1811
By 1815 the family were living in Newbury, Berkshire. The 1815 census of Newbury records Edward (40), a Smith, Mary (40) and their children Sarah (10) and Joseph (3), living in the City, Newbury. Edward was recorded as being blind and Mary was recorded as being deaf. Edward’s mother Sincere (60) was recorded as a Gardener and was also living in the City, Newbury, with her son John Burford (20)
The 1841 census records Edward Burford (60) and Mary Burford (65) living in Church Almshouses, Newbury.
Edward (75) and Mary Burford (76), (surname recorded as Barrett on ancestry) were still living in Church Almshouses, Newbury in 1851. Their granddaughter Ellen Goddard (17), a Servant (daughter of John and Sarah Goddard (nee Burford) was recorded living with them.
Edward died aged 75 in 1851, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5th August.
Mary died aged 84 in 1856, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th January. (Surname recorded as Barefoot on death registration and Newtown Road Cemetery burial record and Burford on the BBI and NBI)
