Sarah Jane Haines
1854-1855
Sarah Jane was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Haines (nee Pope) who were married on the 9th October 1853, at St Giles, Reading, Berkshire.
Sarah Jane died aged 1 in 1855. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th September.
Sarah Jane’s family:
Her mother Elizabeth was baptised on the 7th November 1824, at Welford and Wickham, Berkshire, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Pope (nee Trayhorn) who were married on the 24th December 1804 in Wickham, Berkshire.
Her father William was baptised on the 10th August 1828, in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire, the son of Joel and Eleanor Haines (nee Cooper) who were married on the 14th October 1819, at St Mary, Thatcham, Berkshire. William’s father Joel died aged 32 in 1830. His mother remarried in 1832. Her 2nd husband was Job Haines.
William married Ellen Cooke on the 20th February 1848, at St Laurence, Reading. They had the following 3 children:
Job born 1849, baptised 5th August 1849 at St Mary, Speenhamland Newbury (died aged 2, buried 31st January 1852, as Job Haynes in the Newtown Road Cemetery)
Alice born 1851, baptised 29th June 1851 at St Nicolas Church Newbury
William Job, born 1853, baptised 29th April 1853 at St Mary, Speenhamland (died aged 5 months, buried 7th September 1853, at St Mary the Virgin, Shaw cum Donnington)
The 1851 census records William (22) as a Corn Porter, living in West Street, Newbury with Ellen (23) and their children, Job (2) and Alice (6 weeks) (surname recorded as Harres on ancestry)
William was widowed in 1853. Ellen died aged 24, soon after giving birth to their son William Job. She was buried on the 30th April, at St Mary the Virgin, Shaw cum Donnington. (He married Sarah Jane’s mother 6 months later).
Sarah Jane’s mother Elizabeth died aged 33, in 1856. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st March 1856.
Her father William died aged 29 on the 24th January 1858, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th January.
After her father’s death her half sister Alice went to live with her grandmother Ellen (Eleanor) and her 2nd husband Job Haines. (Job was the younger brother of Joel Haines, Ellen’s 1st husband)
