Transciption: | SARAH WRIGHT Died in St Bartholomew’s Almshouses on Monday the 29th ult. in the one hundred and first year of her age, Sarah Wright. This venerable lady was in possession of nearly the whole of her faculties to the day of her death. She was the eldest daughter of a family of twenty-one children, and had a family of her own of fifteen, most of whom she followed to the grave; those who survive their mother, with twenty-two grand-children and fourteen great-grand-children, have to mourn the loss of their respected relative. |

Transciption: | SARAH WRIGHT LONGEVITY.- On Monday last, at St Bartholomew’s almshouses, died Sarah Wright, one of the oldest inhabitants of this town. She was born in the month of March, 1752, and had therefore had exceeded one hundred years of age. Since Christmas her health had been gradually declining, but previously she enjoyed a good state of health, and only two or three years since expressed, “that she hardly knew what ailed her,” because she could not manage to carry a bucket of water quite so comfortably. She was a native of this town, and was well-known to the old inhabitants, as she held the situation of servant to the corporation for 62 years, and when the “Municipal Act” came into operation, she retired into the almshouses. She was the eldest daughter of 21 children, and mother of fifteen. On Monday morning she laid herself down to rest, imagining that the shades of evening was fast approaching, and slept to wake no more. There are three of her children living, the eldest of whom is upwards of 70, and who followed her remains to the grave, yesterday (Friday). |
