Frederick George Lewis

Frederick was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Ann Lewis (nee Walker) who were married on the 10th May 1841 in Speen, Berkshire. (Both were single, witnesses: Zacharius Butcher and Eliza Walker)
Frederick died aged 2 months, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th December 1851
Frederick’s family:
His mother Ann was baptised on the 16th January 1818 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of John and Mary Walker (nee Field) who were married on the 18th June 1798, in Greenham, Berkshire.
His father Henry was baptised on the 26th January 1817 in Shalbourne, Wiltshire, the son of George and Mary Lewis (nee Batcher/Butcher) who were married on the 16th October 1815 in Shalbourne, Wiltshire.
Frederick’s siblings were:
Eliza Mary born 1842 in Newbury
Emily Field born 1843 in Newbury
William Henry Walter born 1845 in Newbury
Helen Ann (aka Ellen) c1847 in Newbury
Edwin John born 1849 in Eton Bucks
Fanny Maria born 1853 in Newbury (died aged 3 in 1856, buried in the NRC on the 17th June)
Alice Jane born 1855 in Newbury (died aged 10 weeks in 1855, buried in the NRC on the 11th August)
Kate Fanny born 1856 in Newbury
Frederick Edward born 1858 in Newbury
Although Henry and Ann didn’t marry until May 1841, they were recorded living together in Crown Court, Newbury in the 1841 census. Ann was recorded as Ann Lewis and Henry Lewis was recorded working as a Butcher.
In 1851 Henry (34), a Butcher, Ann (33) and their children, Emily (7), William (5) and Ellen (4), (Helen Ann) were living at Regents Place, Upton cum Chalvey, Bucks.
The 1861 census records the family living at 20, Carnarvon Terrace, Newbury.
In 1871 Henry (53) was recorded as a Shopkeeper, living in Speenhamland, with Ann (52) and their children, Eliza (29), a Schoolmistress, Kate (14) and Frederick (12)
Ann died aged 56 in 1873, she was buried on the 29th April, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen.
The 1881 census records Henry (64) as a widower, he was working as an Accountant and was living in London Road, Speen, with his married daughter Helen Curry, his son-in-law Theophilus Curry, his grandchildren Archibald Curry (3), Ethel Curry (1) and his daughter Eliza Lewis (39), a Governess.
Henry died aged 74 in 1891, he was buried on the 23rd March at St Mary the Virgin, Speen.
