Richard Bradfield

Richard, his parents, siblings and early life:

Richard was baptised on the 23rd December 1795 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Bartholomew and Mary Bradfield (nee Allen) who were married on the 1st November 1791 at St Mary, Hampstead Marshall, Berkshire.

His father Bartholomew was born c1771, he died aged 29 in 1800 and was buried on the 15th October 1800 at St Mary, Thatcham Berkshire. (Possible baptism for Bartholomew, 14th June 1772 in Milton, Berkshire, son of Richard and Betty Bradfield)

Richard’s mother Mary was baptised in April 1761 in Hampstead Marshall, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Hannah Allen. Mary died aged 68 in 1829, she was buried on the 6th February at St Nicolas, Newbury.

Richard’s siblings were:

Maria baptised 12th May 1793 in Newbury

 Edward baptised 25th February 1798 in Newbury

Ann, baptised 6th January 1800 in Newbury

In the 1815 Mary Bradfield (55) (recorded as widow of Bartho’w B.) and her children, Maria (22), Edward (18) and Ann (16), were recorded living in Greenham Lane, Newbury.

Richard in later life:

Richard married Marnea Church on the 11th September 1814, in Ramsbury, Wiltshire

(Marienne Church was baptised on the 9th June1793 at St Mary, Kintbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Church)

In 1841 Richard (40) was recorded as a Journeyman Miller, living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury with Merens (45).

The 1851 census records Richard (55) as a Miller, living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury, with Maria (57), a Laundress.

Richard died aged 57 in 1851, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th November.

The 1861 census records Merene as Mary Ann (69) as a Sawyer’s Widow, living alone at 2 Lewis Buildings, Newbury.

Merene Bradfield died aged 73 in 1864, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery (as Marina) on the 18th March.
