James Garland c1770-1851

James Garland

c1770-1851

James was baptised on the 8th November 1773, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the son of John and Hannah Garland (nee Oar) who were married on the 8th April 1755, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury.

His father John was born c1735. He died aged 76 in 1811 and was buried on the 2nd February, at St Nicolas Newbury.

His mother Hannah was born c1737, she died aged 74 in 1811 and was buried on the 20th April, at St Nicolas Newbury

John and Hannah also had the following children baptised at St Nicolas, Newbury:

Joseph, 10th November 1759

John, 25th July 1761

William, 7th September 1764

Benjamin, 7th March 1777

James never married.

In 1841 James (70) was recorded as a Labourer, living in Back Lane, Newbury

The 1851 census records James (81) as a Hatter, he was an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.

James died aged 82 in 1851, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd October. (NBI records age at death as 83)
