William Holloway/Alway/Allway
1849-1851
William’s surname at birth was registered as Alway in the June quarter 1849 in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised in Greenham, Berkshire (as William Allway) in 1849
His parents were Jesse and Eliza Alway (nee Langton) who were married in 1846 (marriage registered in Newbury)
William’s family:
His father Jesse was baptised on the 14th December 1823, at St Mary, Reading, Berkshire, the son of Daniel and Frances Holloway. Daniel Alway married Frances Northway on the 27th December 1817 at St Mary, Thatcham, Berkshire.
William’s mother Eliza was baptised 29th March 1828, (father recorded as a Labourer) the daughter of William and Jane Langton (nee Showell) who were married on 1st February 1816, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury.
William’s siblings were:
John Langton born 6th February, baptised 29th March 1845 in Newbury (illegitimate child of Eliza)
William Henry Alway (aka Henry) born 28th May, baptised 27th June 1847 in Newbury
Jane Allway baptised in 1850 in Greenham
Harriet Matilda Alway baptised 27th March 1853 in Newbury
Emily Holloway baptised 30th July 1854 in Newbury
Jesse Holloway baptised 30th March 1856 in Newbury

In 1851 Jesse (26), a Wheelwright, Eliza (23), John (7), Henry (3), William (1) and Jane (7 months) were recorded living in Factory Yard, Newbury (surname recorded as Allway on ancestry)
William Allway died aged 2 in 1851, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd October, as William Holloway.
The 1861 census records Jesse (36) as a Carpenter, living in Bradley’s Yard, Cheap Street, Newbury, with Eliza (33), John (16), a Bricklayer’s Labourer, Henry (12), a Bricklayer’s Labourer, Jane (10), Harriet (8), Emily (6) Jesse (5), Sarah (3) and Fanny (1) (surname recorded as Holloway on ancestry)
In 1871 Jesse (47), a Journeyman Carpenter, Eliza (44), a Rag Sorter, Harriet (20), a Charwoman, Sarah (14), William (12), Fanny (10), Eliza (8), Mary (6), Maria (5), Walter (4) and Charles (2), were recorded living in Robeson’s Yard, Newbury (surname recorded as Alway on ancestry)
The 1881 census records Jesse (54) as a Carpenter, living at 12 Cumberland Road, Earley, Berkshire, with Eliza (52) and their son Walter (14), a Labourer at a Biscuit Factory and their daughters, Eliza (19) and Mary (17), both Domestic Servants (surname recorded as Allaway on ancestry)
In 1891 Jesse (64), a Carpenter, Eliza (62) and their son Charles (23), a labourer, were recorded living at 106 Kennett Side, Reading, Berkshire (surname recorded as Alway on ancestry)
Eliza Allaway died aged 66 in 1894 (death registered in Reading)
The 1901 census records Jesse Alway (75) as a boarder at 93, Cumberland Road, Reading.
Jesse Alway died aged 80 in 1903 (death registered in Reading)
