Ann Purdue

Ann was baptised on the 25th May 1800 in East Woodhay, Hampshire, the daughter of William and Martha Lawrence (nee Whitehorn) who were married on the 17th August 1796 in West Woodhay, Hampshire.
Ann married Charles Purdue on the 19th April 1819, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire.
(Charles was baptised in 1799 in Newbury, the son of James and Hannah Purdue (nee Skinner) who were married on the 5th July 1784, at St Nicolas, Newbury.)
Charles and Ann had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church, Newbury:
Maria, 2nd May 1819
Ann, 12th August 1821
Charles, 18th July 1824
James, 12th November 1826
Hannah, 1st March 1829
Mary, 29th May 1831
Emma, 2nd November 1834
Thomas, 20th September 1835
Albert, 26th November 1837
Clara, 30th June 1839
Louisa, 21st February 1841 (died aged 6 months, buried 15th June 1841, at St Nicolas, Newbury)
The 1841 census records Charles (40) as a Carpenter, living in West Mills** Newbury, with Ann (40) and their children, Ann (20), Hannah (12), Mary (10), Emma (7), Thomas (6), Albert (4), Clara (2) and Louisa (5 months). (surname recorded as Pardue on ancestry)
The 1851 census records Charles (52) as a Carpenter and Victualler, living in West Mills** with Ann (52) and their children, Emma (16), Thomas (15), Albert (11) and Clara (10).
** The family were living at the Two Brewers. This pub was also where Charles Purdue’s family were recorded living in 1815, his father James was the Publican, he died in 1827, presumably Charles took over the pub after his father’s death.
Ann died aged 52 in 1851, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st June.
Her husband Charles remarried later that year. His 2nd wife was Sarah Finch, born 3rd November 1805, the daughter of Charles and Sarah Finch
In 1861 Charles (61) a Publican, Sarah (55) and a lodger, George Finch (15), a Cabinet Maker, were recorded living in West Mills, Newbury (still at the Two Brewers)
Charles died aged 67 on the 29th January 1867, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd February.
