Transciption: | MR JAMES WHITE Death and Funeral Mr. James White. The death occurred Sunday week. at the advanced age of 80 years, of Mr. James White, who for many rears was in the employ of the Canal Department of the Great Western Railway Company, retiring on a pension from the position of canal inspector between Devizes and Bristol. The deceased had lived in his late years with his son, Mr. George A. White, who is also the official of the G.W.R. Canal Office Newbury, and it was here that death took place. The mortal remains were interred the Newtown Road Cemetery on Thursday, the 18th. the first portion of the service being conducted the Rev. H. C. Roberts (curate) at the Parish Church. The mourners included: Mr. George White (son), Trixie and Kitty (granddaughters), Mrs. Gold and Mrs. Hope (Wokingham), cousins; Mrs. Hay (New Milton), Mrs. Astridge (Aldershot) and Mrs. May (Devizes), nieces; Inspector Weston (Bradford on-Avon); and Inspector Morgan (Devizes), nephews. The following employees of the Canal Department were also present: Inspector Nash (Devizes), Inspector Stowell, Messrs. J. Ferris, J. Slade. G. Dally, J. Paradise, E. Crouch, J. Chamberlain. Hawkins, Robbins, T. Hillier, and J. Salter. The coffin was of polished elm, and the funeral arrangements were carried out Mrs. Chivers, of Cheap Street. There were no flowers (by request). Transciption: | The late Mr James White -- The funeral took place on Thursday last at Newbury Cemetery of Mr James White for many years canal inspector between devizes and Bristol and later a pensioner (late of the locks devizes).
The deceased had for some years been living with his son at the Wharf Newbury. The first part of the service was held at the parish church the Reverend Roberts officiating. The mourners where George's son, Trixie and Kitty (granddaughters), Mrs Hope and Mrs Gould (Wokingham) Cousins, Mrs Flay (New Milton) Mrs May (Devises), Mrs Ashridge (Aldershot) nieces. Inspector Western, Bradford, Inspector Morgan, Devises, (nephews). Also following the coffin were inspector Nash, Devizes, inspector sSowell, G Dully, I paradise, E Grouch, J Chamberlain, T Hillier, Hutchins, Robbins, J Ferris and J Slade. The coffin was of polished elm and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr A J Chivers of Newbury. Flowers by request |
