Transciption: | AN OLD TOWNSMAN The funeral took place last Friday at the Old Cemetery, Newtown-road. The mourners were his four daughters and son, while at the graveside were noticed several townspeople to whom the deceased throughout life had been known. The coffin was covered in flowers from his family, relations and friends. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. H.W. Trotter. Deceased had practically lived in Newbury all his life, and was in the Old Fire Brigade at the time of the destructive fire of 1878 in Church-lane, but now known as the Arcade, when the Captain was Mr. Henry Cullum, for whom he worked as a bricklayer for a good many years.
