MR. CHARLES RAWLINGS
This well-known native of Newbury passed to his rest after a painful illness, on Thursday, December 23rd. Born in 1852 he was educated at the National School under Mr. H. Pratt. He was for many years noted as one of the leading plasterers of the locality, and in that capacity was responsible for some of the best work in the buildings erected by the late Mr. S. Elliott and others in this neighbourhood.
The funeral took place on Tuesday December 28th, the first part at St. Nicholas Church and the interment in the Newtown-road Cemetery. The Rev. L.R. Majendie officiated.
Those present included Mrs. Charles Rawlings (widow), Mr. C. Rawlings (son), Mrs. G. Millard (daughter), Mr. A. Rawlings (son), Mrs. W. Jarrett, Mrs. W. Adey, Mrs. C.F. Critchley (daughters), Mr.. A. Rawlings (brother), Mrs. J. Wheeler (sister), Messrs. G. Millard, W. Jarrett, Mrs. W. Adey (sons in law), Mrs. A. Rawlings (daughter-in-law), Flossie Jarrett, Kitty Millard, Mabel Millard, Gladys Rawlings, Charles Rawlings (grandchildren) Messrs F. Lewis, J. Millard, J. Holder.
A deputation from the Britons Pride Lodge of Oddfellows, of which deceased was a member, attended in compliance with his wish, and consisted of Bros J. Tennant, Prov. G.M., D. Geater, Prov G.S., H. Pratt, P.P.G.M., W. Ward, P.P.G.M.
