THE LATE MRS. SINEY Born at Easton in the parish of Welford, on April 6th 1829, Mrs. Ann Siney passed away at Newbury on December 6th being therefore exactly four months short of 87 years of age. The earliest part of her life was spent with her parents, Joseph and Charlotte Griffin at her birthplace. The fourth of a family of eight,she was the last survivor. She was married on October 13th, 1851, at Wickham, to the late James Siney, the clergyman officiating being the Rev. William Nicholson.
They lived for three years at Inkpen, of which place the husband was a native, and then removed to Newbury, where they continued to reside throughout life. Four children were born to them, one dying in infancy, and with the only daughter they ended their days. Mrs Siney before marriage a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church and on coming to Newbury became connected with the society at Northbrook-street; her name remaining on the class-book there till her death, The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, and was conducted by the Rev. J. Peel. The first part of the service was held in the Wesleyan chapel, Northbrook-street. The hymns sung were "Rock of Ages" and Whittiers "Who fathoms the eternal thought", and as mourners left the church the organist played a funeral march. The mourners were Mr. J. Siney (son), Mrs.S.H. Smith (daughter), Mr. S.H. Smith (son-in-law), Mr.J. Dobson (Oxford), Mr. G. Griffin (Newbury), Mr. K. Fuller, Oxford (nephews),Mrs. H. Hawkes (Wootton Basset), Mrs. A. Poole (Newbury), nieces; Mrs Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. H. Oliver and Miss Thompson. There was a large number of friends at the service and also at the cemetery where the interment took place in the same grave as her husband, who died March 1st 1905. Among the beautiful floral offerings were those of Mr. and Mrs. G. Griffin, Mr. and Mrs a. Poole, Mr. Charles Hussey andfamily (Brightwalton), Mrs. A.J. Chivers, Dorothy, Mrs. Brice Gould, Katherine and Margaret; Mrs. and Miss Brooks, Misses Thompson and Hall,Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Walters, Mr. and Miss F. Brain, the Pirmary Teachers of the Wesleyan Sunday School. The undertaker was Mrs. A.J. Chivers, of Cheap Street.
