John Ambrose Veale

1909-1915

John was born on the 19th January 1909 in Wales, he was baptised on the 19th June 1909 in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales, the son of Alfred James and Mary Ann Veale (nee Ryal) who were married on the 10th February 1901 at St Helen, Kensington, Middlesex. (Mary was recorded as May Annie Ryal)

John’s parents and siblings:

His father Alfred was a Paper Hanger. He was born in 1875 in Paddington, London, the son of Alfred James and Sophia Veale (nee Casely) (no marriage found for this couple). Alfred died aged 40 on the 9th June 1916 in France while serving in the Hampshire Regiment (11th Battalion) during the 1st World War.

His mother Mary was born on the 12th April 1881 in Tenby, Pembroke, Wales, she was baptised on the 3rd May 1881 at St Mary, Tenby, the daughter of Edmond (a Cab Driver) and Susan Ryal (nee Smith) who were married in 1879 in Pembrokeshire.

Alfred James and Mary Ann also had the following children:

Ethel Florence May born 4th December 1901 in Paddington, London

Sophia Susan Gwendolyn born 4th January 1904 in Paddington London

Lucy Laura Helen born 5th April 1905 in Paddington, London

Alfred James born 6th June 1906 in Tenby, Pembroke

William George Arthur born 31st December 1907 in Paddington, London

Vida Irene born 6th June 1910 in Tenby, Pembroke

Olive Rose born 25th November 1911 in Tenby, Pembroke

Charles Henry Sydney born 17th January 1913 in Tenby, Pembroke

In 1901 John’s parents were living Walmer Road, Kensington

John Ambrose died aged 6 (death and burial records record him aged 7) in 1915 in the Isolation Hospital. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th September 1915.
