Sarah Golding

C1830-1914

 

Sarah was born in East Woodhay Hampshire she was the daughter of David and Mary Ann Rose (nee Palmer) who were married on the 25th April 1825 at St Mary’s Church Thatcham both were single.

Mary Ann was born c1804 in London and David was born c1806 in East Woodhay, (died aged 61 in 1863 in Hampshire) and was an Agricultural Labourer.

David and Mary Ann also had the following children (all births registered in Kingsclere):

Richard c1832

Robert 1838

Edward c1841

Rebecca 1844

David 1848

Lucy 1850

Both the 1841 and 1851 census records record Sarah living with her parents and siblings in East Woodhay. She married George Golding in 1853.

Marriage details:

Place: St Pancras Church Camden

Date: 4th July 1853

Groom: George Golding, F/A, Bachelor, Shoemaker, abode: John Street

Bride: Sarah Rose, F/A, Spinster, abode: Charlotte Street

Fathers: Edward Golding, occupation: Shoemaker and David Rose, occupation: Labourer

Bride and Groom both signed

 

George and Sarah had the following children:

Edward c1854 Southwark (died aged 14 buried 4th July 1868 in the NRC)

Mary Ann 1856 Southwark

Emily 1858 Southwark

Sarah Ann 1861 Newbury (died aged 3 buried 13th August 1864 in the NRC)

Lizzy 1865 Newbury

 

Sarah was recorded as a Nurse/Midwife and George was recorded as a Shoemaker/Bootmaker in census records and the family were recorded living in Hereford Place Newbury from 1861-1901

George died aged 74 on the 8th November 1903 he was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th November.

Sarah was still living in Hereford Place in 1911 but by 1914 she was living at 72 Bartholomew Street Newbury. She died aged 83 on the 30th July 1914 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st August
