Thomas Peaty
1850-1914
Over time Thomas’ family surname has been recorded as Patey, Peaty, Dealy and Reaty, also his mother’s christian name has been recorded as both Hannah and Mary Ann (highlighted accordingly).
Thomas Patey was born in 1850 (mother’s maiden name recorded as Johnson at time of birth registration), he was baptised on the 20th August 1850 in Little Bedwyn, Wiltshire, the son of Henry (a Bricklayer) and Mary Ann Patey of Chisbury, Wiltshire.
Henry Peaty married Hannah Johnson on the 15th May 1844 in Bedwyn, Wiltshire.
They also had the following children baptised in Wiltshire:
Henry William Peaty on the 17th November 1844 in Great Bedwyn (mum recorded as Hannah)
Mary Ann Patey on the 29th September 1847 in Little Bedwyn (mum recorded as Hannah)
John Patey baptised aged 8 ½ on the 5th July 1861 in Little Bedwyn (mum recorded as Mary Ann)
(No death found for a Hannah Peaty, no marriage found for a Henry Peaty to a Mary Ann. All birth registrations record mother’s maiden name as Johnson)
The 1851 census records Thomas Patey aged 9 months, living in Chisbury, Wiltshire, with Henry (38), Hannah (37), Henry William (6) and Mary Ann (4).
In 1861 Thomas (10) was living in Chisbury Lane, Little Bedwyn with his parents and siblings. (surname recorded as Dealy on ancestry) (mum recorded as Hannah)
The 1871 census records Thomas Peaty (20) as a Bricklayer, living in Bedwyn Lower Common, with his parents and siblings Mary (24) and John (18) (mum recorded as Hannah)
In 1881 Thomas Peaty (31) was still working as a Bricklayer and was still living at home (Bedwyn Common) with his parents Henry (68) a Bricklayer and Grocer and Hannah (67) and his sister Mary (34), a Domestic Servant.
By 1891 Thomas Reaty (40) was working as a General Haulier, boarding at Horse Shoes, Burbage, Wiltshire.
The 1901 census records Thomas Peaty (50) working as a General Labourer, boarding at 2 Berkeley Cottages, Speenhamland, Berkshire.
Thomas Peaty died aged 65 in 1914, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th April (abode at time of death, The Tiger Lodging House, Newbury)
