William James Piddington
1913-1913
William James was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of William John and Ruth Piddington (nee Bushell) who were married in 1910 (marriage registered in Newbury).
He died aged 1 month in 1913 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19th March.
William’s parents:
His father William John was born in 1885 in Newbury, the son of William John and Bertha Mary Piddington (nee Davis) who were married in 1885 (marriage registered in Newbury). William served as a Private in the Princess Charlotte of Wales (Royal Berkshire Regiment) during the 1st World War. He was killed in action on the 29th July 1916 and was buried in the Laventie Military Cemetery, in France.
His mother Ruth was born on the 31st December 1876 in Chilton Foliat, Wiltshire, she was baptised on the 18th February 1877, in Chilton Foliat, the daughter of William (a Labourer) and Mary Bushell (nee Martin) who were married on the 16th October 1858 in Chilton Foliat, Wiltshire.
The 1911 census records his father William as a Grocer’s Shop Assistant living with his mother Ruth, in St John’s House, Pound Street, Newbury.
The 1930 Electoral Register and the 1939 Register records both record his mother Ruth, living at 26 Eldon Street, Reading, Berkshire.
She died aged 65 in 1941 in Reading, Berkshire.
