James, his parents, siblings and early life:
James was born in Newbury, Berkshire, he was baptised on the 6th August 1865, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the son of Charles (a Labourer) and Mary Pike (nee Day) who were married on the 25th November 1855, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
His father Charles was born in St Mary Bourne, Hampshire. He was baptised on the 28th November 1824, St Mary Bourne, the son of James (a Labourer) and Martha Pyke (nee Curtis) who were married on the 3rd September 1811, in St Mary Bourne. (Surname mistakenly recorded as Pink) Charles Pike died aged 75, on the 18th July 1900, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st July.
His mother Mary was baptised on the 18th May 1834, in Hurstbourne Tarrant, Hampshire, the daughter of Alexander and Sarah Day (nee Ball) who were married on the 19th November 1831, in Hurstbourne Tarrant. Mary died aged 80, on the 14th March 1915, at 3 Church Almshouses, Newbury. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th March, with her husband Charles.
Charles and Mary also had the following children baptised at St Nicolas, Newbury:
Harriet, born 1856, baptised 27th July 1856 (dad a Labourer)
Charles, born c1859, baptised 20th February 1859 (dad a a Labourer)
George, born c1860, baptised 25th March 1860 (dad a Brewer)
Harry, born 1861, baptised 25th August 1861 (dad a Brewer)
William, born 1863, baptised 2nd February 1864 (dad a Labourer)
Ann, born 1866, baptised 13th January 1867 (dad a Brewer’s Labourer)
Ellen, born 1868, baptised 7th February 1869 (dad a Brewer’s Labourer)
Alfred, born 1870, baptised 1st January 1871 (dad a Labourer)
Arthur Alexander, born 1872, baptised 6th October 1872 (dad a Labourer. Died aged months 11 months, buried in the NRC on the 14th June 1873)
Alice, born 1874, baptised 2nd August 1874 (dad a Labourer. Died aged 18 months, buried in the NRC on the 6th December 1875)
Albert Ernest born c1876, baptised 16th April 1876 (dad a Brewer’s Labourer)
In 1861 Charles Pike (34), a Brewer’s Labourer, Mary (26) and their children, Harriet (4), Charles (2) and George (1), were recorded living in Stillman’s Yard, Bartholomew Street, Newbury.
The 1871 census records Charles Pyke (42), a Brewer’s Labourer, still living in Stillman’s Yard, with Mary (36) and their children, Charles (12), George (11), Harry (9), William (7), James (6), Hannah (4), (Ann) and Ellen (2).
In 1881 Charles Pike (52), a Brewer’s Labourer, Mary (46), Charles (22), a Bricklayer’s Labourer, Harry (19), a Labourer in Iron Works, James (16) an Errand Boy, Ellen (12), Alfred (10) and Albert (5), were recorded living in Westfields, Newbury.
No census records found for James in 1891 or 1901.
The UK Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Soldier Service Records 1760-1920 have the following record, which could be James:

The 1911 census records James (45) a Butcher, living alone at 5, Trafalgar Place, Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire
James died aged 47, in 1913, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th January.
