Sarah Ann Osborne/Osborn

1839-1912

Sarah Ann baptised 2nd June 1839 in Croydon, Surrey, the daughter of William and Maria Osborn (nee Goulder) who were married on the 12th March 1833, at St James, Paddington, Middlesex.

Her father William was baptised on the 11th June 1793 in Shipdham, Norfolk, the son of John and Mary Osborn. He died aged 76 in 1868 (death registered in Newbury)

Her mother Maria was born on the 13th November 1802, she was baptised on the 28th November 1802 in North Walsham, Norfolk, the daughter of William and Sarah Golder. Maria died aged 88 in 1890, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th November.

Sarah’s siblings were:

Christopher George baptised 11th August 1833 at St John the Baptist, Croydon, Surrey

Emma Maria born 26th March 1835, baptised 12th April 1835 in West Wickham, Kent

William born in 1844 in Burghclere, Hampshire

The 1841 census records William (43) as a Coachman, living in Wickham Street, West Wickham, Kent, with Maria (34), Christopher (8), Emma (6) and Sarah (2).

In 1851 Maria (47), a Coachman’s wife, Emma (16), Sarah (11) and William (6) were recorded living in Adbury, (near Burghclere) Hampshire. William (57) was recorded lodging in Sussex.

In 1861 Sarah’s father William (67), an Innkeeper, her mother Maria (57) and her sister Emma (26), a Dressmaker were living in Lambourn Road, Bagnor, Berkshire. Sarah (20) was working as a Dressmaker’s Assistant and was boarding at 33 Bloomsbury Street, Finsbury, Middlesex.

The 1871 census records Sarah (29), a Milliner, her sister Emma (35), a Dressmaker, her nephew Konrad Christopher Osborn (8) (son of her brother Christopher George and his wife Katharina (nee Happel)) and her mother Maria (67) living at The Five Bells, Lambourn Road, Bagnor. Maria was recorded as an Innkeeper.

In 1881 Sarah (40) a Dressmaker and her mother Maria (79) were recorded living at 2, West Street, Newbury, Berkshire.

The 1891 census records Sarah (50) as a Dressmaker, living alone at 2, West Street, Newbury,

In 1901 Sarah (61) was living at 5, Winchcombe Place, Newbury, she was again recorded as a Dressmaker in the census for this year.

The 1911 census records Sarah (71) as an Old Age Pensioner, living alone at 5, Winchcombe Place. In this census she was recorded as being deaf.

Sarah Ann died aged 73 the following year, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st September 1912.
