Transciption: | HARRY CHALLIS BEER THE LATE MR. H. C. BEER INTERMENT AT NEWBURY In the presence of a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. The mortal remains of the late Mr. H.C. Beer were laid to rest on Saturday afternoon in Newbury Cemetery. Harry Challis Beer was an Andover man, but came to the town a number of years back, entering the employment of Messrs. Ferris as a coach painter. He married a daughter of the late Mr. Edward Terry, and in latter years has been closely identified with the life of the town in many ways. For several years he had acted as Toll Collector as the cattle market, and when the Liberal Club removed to its present home in Northbrook-street, he was appointed Assistant Secretary and lived on the premises. Much of the success of the club was due to his efforts, whilst he had displayed much artistic taste in decorating the building in times of public rejoicing, such as the Coronation. He was also a prominent member of the Baptist Church. For many years he was head of the Infants' Department and was also a deacon. Leaving Messrs. A.J. Chivers, being with them for ten years and occupying the position of foreman painter. Mrs. Chivers, the head of the firm, was present at the funeral, and the coffin was borne by his fellow employees. He was not a man of strong constitution, but he did not spare himself in any of his duties. He had been ill for about a twelve month, and for over three months was confined to his bed, but he bore his sufferings with fortitude and patience. The first portion of the funeral service took place at the Baptist Church, where a large congregation of mourners had assembled to pay their respects to one who had fulfilled his part in life. In addition to friends and acquaintances, there were representatives from the Liberal Club, the Baptist Church, the Free Church Council, and of the United Kingdom of Coachbuilders, of which the deceased was a member. The coffin, covered with a large number of beautiful floral emblems, was met at the church entrance by the Pastor, the Rev. C.V. Pike, who conducted the service.....The family mourners included Mrs. Beer (widow), Miss Beer (only daughter), Mr. Fred Beer (brother), Miss Emily Beer (sister), Miss Terry, Mrs. Davis, Mr. Bert Davis, Mr. Reginald Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Ebenezer Terry, Mr. Edward Terry, Miss Ettie Terry, Mrs. Fred Beer, Mr. J. Miller, Mr. Reginald Terry, Mr. Ebenezer Terry (jun.), Mr. Stanley Howard, Mr. W. Barrett and Mr. Percy Titcombe.
