Jane was born in Newbury in 1838 (Q1 6 193).

 

1841C: She was 3 & living with her parents, Thomas & Anna Gibbs at Faircross, Newbury. She had 2 sisters; Mary aged 9 & Esther 9 months. Thomas was a Blacksmith.

 

No record for 1851 has yet been found.

 

Jane married Henry Dell (Ref: 12064) in 1858 in Newbury.

 

1861C: Jane & Henry were living in Bath Road, Speen. She was 23 & Henry, a Shoemaker, was 34. Two children from Henry’s previous marriage were living with them: George, 15, a House Painter & Elizabeth, 10. Jane had 3 children of her own: William, 7; Mary Jane, 1 (9634), & Thomas, 2 months (9635).

Sadly, both of her younger children died in 1865 from Scarlatina. Both are buried in NRC.

 

1871C: Jane, 32, & Henry, 44, are now living in Jack Street, Newbury. Son William is 19 & a Chemist’s Porter. Jane has had 2 more children: Ann, 7, & Esther, 4.

 

Jane & Henry are still in Jack Street in 1881 & all the children have left home. By 1891 they have moved to 3, Exchange Buildings, Newbury. Henry dies in 1895.

 

A year later Jane marries George Woodward (Ref: 5621) in Newbury (1896 Q3 2c 493).

 

1901C: They are living at 5, Wakefield Cottages, Stroud Green. Jane is 64 & George 58. He is an Army Pensioner & dies in 1902.

 

1911C: Jane, 74, is now living with her daughter Esther Green (Ref; 607) & her family at 3, Harrison’s Buildings, Stroud Green.

 

Jane dies in 1912 (Q1 Newbury 2c 336) aged 75 & is buried at NRC on 7 March 1912.
