JOSEPH FINCH

THE LATE MR JOSEPH FINCH

By the death of Mr. Joseph Finch, which occurred last Sunday week, there passed away, at the advanced age of 80, almost the last surviving member of an old Newbury family well-known in industrial circles of a generation ago.

Mr. Finch served his apprenticeship to the printing trade in the office of the late Mr. James Blacket, where he afterwards filled the position of foreman. In the early sixties Mr. Finch left Newbury, and took a printing business at Sevenoaks, Kent, which he conducted for about twenty five years, when, retiring from business, he again took up his residence in Newbury.

In later years he suffered the loss of his wife and son, and for some time previous to his death he had been in poor health.

The funeral took place in Newbury Cemetery last Friday, conducted by the Rev. F.W. Clarke, who alluded in feeling terms the Christian character of the deceased.

The mourners included Miss Finch (daughter), Mr. F.C. Hopson, Mr. Whyley, Miss Walter, Mrs. Brice Gould, Miss May, and Maid. There were also present, Mr. and Mrs. Nash, Mr. J.N. Day, Mr. Blacket, Mr. Slight, Mr. J.H. Hopson and several ladies. Wreaths were also sent by a number of friends.
