Gladys Dora Lucy Lovelock

1903-1910

Gladys was born in Newbury, the daughter of Walter and Louisa Caroline Lovelock (nee Claridge) who were married in 1902 (marriage registered in Newbury)

Gladys died of Acute Laryngitis aged 6 ½ years on the 25th June 1910, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th June.

Gladys’ family:

Her father Walter was born on the 16th May 1872 in Greenham, Berkshire, the son of Richard and Ellen Lovelock (nee Smith) who were married in 1861 at St Mary’s Church Greenham, Berkshire

Her mother Louisa was born on the 8th April 1879 in Winterbourne Berkshire, the daughter of Charles and Sarah Susannah Claridge (nee Spanswick) who were married on the 1st April 1871 in Shalbourne, Wiltshire.

Louisa already had two children before she married Walter. Reginald William George Claridge was born on the 24th July 1898 and Matilda Louisa May Claridge was born on the 6th July 1900.

Walter and Louisa also had the following children:

Charles Walter born 1905 (died aged 7 months and 10 days on the 15th December 1905, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th December

Arthur Frederick born 1907

Henry Jesse born 1908

Percival Charles born 1910

Agnes Ivy Constance born 1912

Leslie Thomas born 1914

Phyllis Mildred born 1923

In 1911 the family were living at 14 Jack Street Newbury. Walter was working as a Builder’s General Labourer and Louisa was working as a Laundress.

The 1939 Register records Gladys’ parents living at 9 Kennet Place, Newbury. Walter was recoded as a Labourer (Incapacitated).

Walter died in 1941, Louisa died the following year, both were buried in Shaw Cemetery, Newbury.
