Esther Nielson/Neilson
c1833-1910
Esther was baptised on the 11th March 1833, in Wantage, Berkshire, the daughter of Thomas and Martha Harding.
Thomas and Martha also had a son, William, baptised on the 31st May 1829, in Wantage.
In 1851 Esther (17) was working as a House Servant, living in Leadenhall Street, St Katharine Cree, London, the home of Rebecca (22) and John Hone (25), a Hairdresser.
By 1861 Esther (25) was working as a House Servant, for a Michael Murphy (49), a Wholesale Confectioner and his family, at Craven Cottage, High Road, Finchley, Middlesex

Bride: Esther Harding, full age, spinster, abode, Stoke Newington
Fathers: Thomas Harding and Charles Nielson, both Merchants, both deceased.
(Joseph was born in Dumfriesshire, Scotland)
The 1881 census records Joseph Nielson (70) as a Commercial Clerk, living at 62 Walford Road, South Hornsey, Middlesex, with Esther (43).
Esther was widowed in 1888. Joseph Neilson died aged 77, on the 13th April at 62 Walford Road, Stoke Newington, leaving £2036 10s 1d (surname recorded as Nielson on probate record)
By 1891 Esther Nielson (50) was living on her own means, at Malford Villa, Greenham, Bekshire.
In 1901 Esther Neilson (66) was again recorded living on her own means, she was now living at Elm Villas, Wash Common, Newbury. Also living with her was a lodger, James Gray (42), a Shoemaker.
Esther Neilson died aged 75, on the 10th April 1910, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th April.
(Esther’s surname has been recorded as Neilson on her burial record and Nielsen on her Memorial Inscription)
